We support Mexico in the implementation of its National Addiction Prevention Strategy Juntos por la Paz, through strengthening the National Drug Observatory and harm reduction policies addressing problematic methamphetamine and fentanyl use, including for sexual and gender diversity populations.

How do we support the country?

Strengthening the National Drug Observatory
Drug demand reduction
  • Approval of the National Research Priorities Agenda on Mental Health and Addictions (2024) to provide evidence-based information for the creation, evaluation and reformulation of drug policy actions or strategies.

  • Incorporation of the gender approach into the National Mental Health and Addictions Survey and into the field data collection form.

  • Support to the National Commission on Mental Health and Addictions (CONASAMA) to strengthen the State response to fentanyl and methamphetamine use through prevention, community treatment and harm reduction actions, including:

  • Training of more than 150 professionals from the national service network on the practical application of the Technical Guides and Toolboxes.

  • Support to CONASAMA in mainstreaming the gender approach to ensure inclusive interventions, through a technical care guide for sexual diversity populations, a toolbox and training sessions.
