Trinidad and Tobago
We support Trinidad and Tobago in the implementation of its 2021 National Drug Policy.
This assistance has focused on strengthening the National Drug Observatory, reducing demand through territorial approaches and community treatment, and reducing supply through alternatives to incarceration.
How do we support the country?
Strengthening the National Drugs Observatory
Establishment of a national research network on drugs and narcotics, as well as the approval of the 2026–2030 National Drug Agenda.
Creation of a Scientific Committee on Drugs to advise the National Drug Observatory of Trinidad and Tobago.
Drug demand reduction
- Support to the National Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Programme (NACADD) of the Ministry of Health in the design of a pilot device of art and culture workshops for young people in the locality of Penal, in southern Trinidad.
Humanisation of justice in drug-related offences
- Support to the National Drug Council in exploring institutional pathways towards a model of penal alternatives, taking the Portuguese model of Dissuasion Commissions as a reference.
