Jamaica
We support Jamaica in the implementation of its National Drug Plan.
This support has focused on strengthening the National Drug Observatory, including actions to reinforce the information and research system and the Early Warning System.
We also support demand reduction strategies, particularly community treatment for vulnerable populations.
How do we support the country?
Strengthening the National Drugs Observatory
Progress in establishing an Advisory Scientific Committee to advise the National Drug Observatory of Jamaica.
Support for creating the National Drug Research Network and developing the Research Agenda.
Training for experts on new psychoactive substances, consumption practices and the European Early Warning System (SAT) model.
Drug demand reduction
Support to the National Council on Drug Abuse (NCDA) in implementing a community treatment pilot project in the Falmouth community, supporting young drug users and preventing homelessness.
Support for developing a practical guide to implement territorialisation projects in vulnerable communities.
Fight against drug trafficking and organised crime
Through the CARICOM IMPACS Implementing Agency for Crime and Security, Jamaica strengthened its capacities in asset prevention in the fight against drug trafficking, as well as on synthetic drugs and new psychoactive substances (NPS).
Through the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF), the country trained analysts and technicians from the National Police and the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) in new money-laundering risks arising from the use of virtual assets.
